The Challenge:
Frequently trades persons and do-it-yourselfers find it necessary
to carry materials, ladders, and sundry building items too large to
fit in an automobile trunk or pickup bed. When this occurs, the only
viable location for transport is on top of, or leaning against, the
roof or other surface of the car or pickup. The result more often than
not, is paint damage and dents to the vehicle body.

Buy a pricey roof rack and have it installed (not inexpensive)...
wrap rugs and/or newspapers around the items or materials (not convenient
